Oasis is an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Fronted by Liam and Noel Gallagher. The group’s first album, Definitely Maybe, came out in 1994 and was a massive success in the U.K.
With comparisons to the Beatles’ unstoppable melody on top of energised, multi-tracked guitars, Definitely Maybe defined the Britpop movement: smart young English bands that drew from previous U.K. bands but added a contemporary spin.
Definitely Maybe didn’t prove to be as successful in the States, but it established Oasis as superstars at a time when most popular groups were more dour and introspective.
By contrast, Noel Gallagher’s songs (sung with bratty exuberance by Liam) rocked with heedless abandon.
Its follow-up, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? cemented the band’s legacy.
After the success of (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? the band released Be Here Now, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry, Don’t Believe the Truth, and Dig Out Your Soul before splitting up in 2009.
The band announced a reunion tour in 2025. On 27 August 2024, almost 15 years after their 2009 split, Oasis announced that they would reform for performances in the UK and Ireland in July and August 2025, stating, “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see.”
In 2026, Oasis announced the Live ’27 Tour.
